Blackmon's photographs are in the permanent collections of the National Gallery of Art, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, the Cleveland Museum of Art, and the George Eastman Museum. Her work has been featured in The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, and Vanity Fair. She stages elaborate domestic tableaux — part observation, part fiction — using controlled lighting and careful composition to transform ordinary suburban life into something that reads closer to Dutch genre painting. Each image is constructed in-camera with real props, real children, and real rooms, then printed as large-scale archival pigment prints with the color density and detail that process allows.
